Ill-Advised (1/2 Hour Spec Pilot)

Ill-Advised (1/2 Hour Spec Pilot)

This 23-minute spec pilot was shot over four days, and at a total cost of under $10,000. It was shot on two Panasonic HVX-200's - and by shooting two angles on most takes, it allowed the production to move very quickly, without sacrificing quality. It was a thrill directing a script by 20-year comedy veteran Bob Kushell, as well as working with actors like: Amy Farrington (HBO's "Hung"), Audrey Wasilewski (AMC's "Mad Men"), and Noah Munck (Nickelodeon's "iCarly").
“The Toodles” Presentation

“The Toodles” Presentation

"The Toodles" is the story of a long-time struggling rock band, that has instant success when play one gig at a birthday party. The project was conceived for an Los Angeles-based band called "The Four Postmen" - who are friends of mine. They wrote the theme song for the presentation, which sold to VH-1 in 2007 - and was later killed by the WGA strike in the same year.
Clean & Clear :30

Clean & Clear :30

Warner Brothers and Clean & Clear teamed up on several :30 commercials that had their "girls" snooping around the sets of WB Shows. I worked with an amazing crew, who shot two spots in a day (including some beautiful product shots) as well as allowing for several variations of the script. In the end, the elongated "business portion" of the spots made for some tricky editing, but I think it worked out nicely.
iPacino App Commercial

iPacino App Commercial

This bit was conceived of for the five-minute talk show I shot for Sony. With iPhone apps exploding, and knowing I had the best Al Pacino impersonator in the world (Max Koch) at my disposal, it was a natural. All the "Pacino mouths" were shot separately, and then motion tracked and "comped" onto the iPhone by myself.
Fox Spec Promo – 24

Fox Spec Promo – 24

I had this "superfan" concept in my head forever, and pitched it in promo meetings many times. Finally I decided to call up a brilliant actor friend (Lorin Salm) and just shoot the thing on spec for Fox. Although it went over well, it simply isn't their "brand" to make light of their dramas. Oh well, I still have the tape.
Larry the Cable Guy Promo

Larry the Cable Guy Promo

This was conceptualized in Los Angeles, but we shot Dan Whitney in Minneapolis, MN between a couple of his tour dates. We ended up shooting three different spots in less than six hours, and "Larry" was off in his bus to the next stop on the tour. The concept? Larry the Cable Guy is "cut" into an existing scene from Gilmore Girls.
