DUELING COMMERCIALS ON ECONOMY
Obama and McCain have put out very similar ads today while trying to gain support for their economic plans for this country. With over 60% of voters supporting Obama as the superior candidate to "fix the economy", you'd think McCain would concentrate on his own plan - but you'd be wrong. Here's McCain's commercial:
What I still don't understand about McCain is that he is backing (and expanding) the same tax cuts that have gotten us into this mess, and has still not explained how he'd be able to cut spending enough to pay for these increased tax cuts. That's why he's on schedule to raise the National Debt MORE than the "tax and spend liberal" he's running against.
McCain hits Obama on the following points:
1. INCREASED SPENDING - First off, it should be noted that Obama considers himself a "pay as you go" candidate. Which means that if he can't cut enough somewhere else to pay for a program - it's gone. I also find it humorous that McCain would show an impoverished Mother/Daughter during this portion of the voice-over, even though these are the people Obama plans to help - which is why he's been labeled a "re-distributor of wealth" by McCain.
2. TAX OUR ECONOMY DEEPER INTO RECESSION - Again, how has Bush's lower taxes HELPED the economy? And didn't similar taxation HELP Clinton pull the economy out of the recession in the early 1990's? The Clinton and Bush economies are something that most voters can actually remember, which is why I don't think McCain's arguments are gaining any traction.
Now it's Obama's turn. Take a look here:
By using John McCain's own words, Obama's Campaign has shown that even with his own weaknesses on this most vital issue - McCain still chose someone against his better judgment. This is something that even Republican's have brought up over the past several new cycles, and is a potentially devastating blow to McCain - who paints himself as the "experience" and "steady hand" candidate.
The wink at the end is just the icing on the cake.

Has anyone heard how O's "Toot" is doing? Hmmmmm? :) AL
Is the RNC (and Rush Limbaugh) demanding that Obama's grandmother die before the election?
Seriously, the "tinfoil hat wearers" have to give it a rest. McCain has a tougher road to haul being born in Panama, than Obama does being born in Hawaii.
However, being born to an American citizen - no matter where you are born - means that you are an American at birth.
Only citizens that become "naturalized" (like Ahnold) are eliminated from attaining the highest office.
It's funny though to see the Repugs still floating this crap. By the way, if he flew to Hawaii to deal with his 1961 birth records - then doesn't it stand to reason he was born in Hawaii?
For Rush to question the visit with a dying grandparent makes him... well, Rush.
It is curious as to why he was so forthcoming with details about his grandmother's grave condition, then,... not to have mentioned her health afterward?
As for his citizenship, eventually the truth, if there is something to be disclosed, will be. The guy who is pushing for it hasn't the best reputation; so that makes the whole process suspect.
I hope "Toot" (if BO is elected)makes it to the inaugural..she's earned it. But, I also think it would be great for John McCain's Mother to have the similar honor!
Jack Van Loan, a fellow POW of McCain, was in Roseburg today. He gave a powerful speech regarding the time spent in the same camp, as prisoners. Actually listening to someone who was there and experienced at the same time McCain did, was wrenching.
Van Loan listened as JMcCain was tortured after he refused to accept early release. What this man had to say, should be heard by every person to better understand what bravery, service to country and personal sacrifice really means.
Almost SIX years....try to imagine it. SIX...YEARS!
On the other hand, listening to Jay Leno's JayWalkers last night on why and who, they were voting..as not so much amusing as sad...sad that they didn't know the issues, history, the economy...only knew one name. Sad.
Oh well...we'll know soon enough. AL
I wonder what Jack Van Loan has to say about that no good John Kerry. Sure, he served (in fact, he volunteered)-- but he also lied about his service, his medals and, goddamnit, he wind-surfed. I wonder how many other Vietnam vets are weasels like him (most likely they're all Democrats!). I'm sure glad we have the GOP around to tell us who the "real" war heroes are. Ryan
