McCAIN NEEDS TO CHANGE HIS "COUNTRY FIRST" SLOGAN TO "LIES FIRST"?
If you scroll down this particular blog over the past week or so, you'll see my recent disdain for Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain. Seems McCain has had some trouble getting any traction in his bid for the White House, so he's resorted to a mixture of lies, half-truths, and innuendo regarding his competitor, Senator Barack Obama. But hey, don't take my word for it, click on over to FactCheck.org.
Since 1994, FactCheck has been combing the airwaves, debates, and print ads in an attempt to "level the playing field" for citizens trying to find the truth.
Right now on their front page, of the Top 10 most recent "dishonest entries", SIX come from within McCain's own campaign - - and NONE come from Obama's.
Some of McCain's claims?
- McCain's new ad claims that Obama "says he'll raise taxes on electricity." That's false. Obama says no such thing.
- The McCain campaign has been running an under-the-radar Web ad that shows photos of Fidel Castro and Barack Obama, and says, "Fidel Castro thinks he is 'the most advanced candidate.' " In fact, the quote comes from an article by Castro that was largely critical of Obama.
- McCain's new ad accuses Obama of keeping gas prices high, all by himself. That's absurd, and McCain knows it – he has said repeatedly that our current problems were "30 years in the making."
- A McCain TV ad says Obama "voted against funding our troops." He did, once. Every other time he voted in favor.
- He (McCain) claims 23 million small-business owners would pay higher tax rates under Obama. He's wrong. The vast majority would see no change, and many would get a cut.
How's that for "straight talk"?
